Middle School Counseling

Middle School is like a dress rehearsal for high school. It is a time of significant growth and complex changes in an individual’s life, and tweens/young teens can use all the support they can get. As if the advent of puberty weren’t enough, middle school kids face the prospects of changing relationships, bullying, dating, social media pressures, and a significant step up in academic demands. Self-confidence may suffer during this time for many reasons, affecting academic performance. The good news is colleges will never ask for middle school transcripts or behavior reports so whatever happens in middle school stays in middle school and it is ok to figure things out and learn from mistakes during this time. That said, the goal is for the trajectory to be pointed toward success.

My job is to guide middle school students toward optimal academic and social success. With monthly or bi-monthly meetings, we will monitor academic and social progress, leading to optimal results for high school readiness.

For students applying to independent high schools, the process is not unlike college admissions and can be similarly daunting. Being well informed and prepared will significantly improve chances for success.
